Is Google News biased?

Michelle Malkin points out that liberal blogs like Wonkette and the Democratic Underground are in Google News, but not conservative blogs like Little Green Footballs and her blog.

I think Michelle Malkin probably has a point. Is not Google located in the San Francisco area, a very blue area in a blue state? Probably the left wing politics of the people making the decisions have influenced somewhat whom they choose to include.

I also think Joe Koss correctly argues that Google “should err on the side of "NON-Admittance" as opposed to admittance.” I think sites that just link to other news articles, which is what Malkin mostly does, aren’t really creating any news.

Google should probably be looking to remove some news sources rather than add them. It’s also very annoying that the same AP article shows up in Google News a hundred times, they need to have some kind of filter on that.

I understand Google's logic in wanting to focus on news- origination sites rather than news-consolidation sites; however, I think this distinction will beome increasingly unworkable over time. Many bloggers, such as those in Iraq, are increasingly *originating* news stories, based on their own direct experience, as well as writing commentary. Are the reports of someone who lives in a place and speaks the language worth less than the reports of a reporter who stays in a hotel and likely speaks only English?

I think Google is behaving correctly.
Michelle complains that google-news includes
www.uruknet.info and she would like they remove this site "politically incorrect" (for her).
I know this swiss site - that also gives some news in italian - and it is the most comprehensive web site on Iraq occupation by US, UK, Italy and similar armies.
Taking news from this website google-news (both italian and english versions) covers all aspects of the occupation and of the legitimate iraqi resistance.
Instead, which is the adavantage for google-news of taking stories from Michelle's blog?
Google-news deals with NEWS and not of COMMENTS and FREE WORDS.
www.uruknet.info also includes some exclusive articles by famous italian and arabic writers and by the legal defense team for President Saddam Hussein.

Malkin broke three news items today alone on the Eason Jordan/CNN dustup.

My Photo

The Hoax

  • I started this blog pretending to be a gorgeous blonde "libertarian girl" who just graduated from college. The ruse worked great until someone discovered that the photo I was using was taken from a Russian brides website. Read the classic post where I admit to the hoax.
