Thoughts on Eason Jordan

I feel I should write something about Eason Jordan (see post at Captain’s Quarters for links), the chief news executive of CNN, because he has been a big topic of conversation in the blogosphere.

He apparently has publicly made anti-U.S. remarks, including the assertion that the U.S. military was targeting and killing journalists.

I share the outrage of those other blogs, but there’s not much I can really add to the conversation. Compared to the traffic that those big blogs get, hardly anyone is listening to me.

Based upon what I’ve read, it seems clear to me that Jordan has abused his position with CNN to actively spread misinformation with which he hopes to damage the credibility of George Bush and the U.S. military.

If you are a journalist in a war zone, visit the enemy to film them killing our soldiers, then yeah, the soldiers aren't going to be too happy. Likewise, if you are so busy filming/reporting that you let a soldier die when helping with another pair of hands would have saved him, yeah, they aren't going to be too happy with you. Finally, if you drive up on soldiers stuck out at a vulnerable checkpoint, stop at RPG range, pull out a big long thing that sort of resembles an RPG and point it at them from behind cover, yep it is real possible they might take exception to that and shoot first to protect themselves. Finally, if you act in an unprofessional manner in order to make that big story, telling half of what is going on or coercing soldiers into doing stupid stuff for your greater glory in the story, yeah, the survivors resent that a whole lot.

But deliberate kill some reporters who conduct themselves in a professional, non-battlefield-threatening way, and strive for accuracy while living with the soldiers? No way.
